I don't think I really started getting into photography until I began to take notice of some of the amazing images that kept popping up in the skateboarding and surfing magazines I grew up reading. Chris Burkard is only a year or two older than me and I think started shooting when he was 19 or something. He's come up pretty fast in the professional surfing photography world having already won some prestigious awards and put out a book, so it's kind of inspiring for me to see someone so young already achieving so much in a field filled bursting with competition and conventional thinking. I know surfing or skateboarding or whatever photography can be a little banal at times, especially if you have zero interest in it, but Burkard has a really unique eye who isn't afraid to experiment, and I think he captures a lot of cool imagery that anyone can appreciate.
If you like his stuff make to check out his California Book Project links in the final slide of the little portfolio slideshow thing.
